Apple is planning on releasing complete support for Audio Unit based effects and processing within iOS 9. Such support will allow iOS music makers, including GarageBand on iOS to use many more effects units.
The have also announced Audio Unit version 3 API which allows quick conversion between OS X and iOS audio units.
